Our roots are steeped in the world of flour, water, and yeast. Now four generations strong, our family 'the Goldbergs' have brought the bagel to the 21st century.
Our branch of the tree started with Arthur 'Artie' Goldberg. He worked as a baker, bagel maker, store owner, and was a part of the history of the original bagel union. Artie and his partners started a chain of bagel stores in The Brooklyn, Queens, and New York Area. The area was not quite ready and tension developed amongst the partners. So, the group each got a store and went their seperate ways. Artie took over the Westwood store and so it began.
Following in his dads footsteps, Marc learned the business from the bottom up. Starting at age 14 he would go before school, bake bagels for the store and wholesale accounts then, after school, return to the store to roll bagels for the next day. It was the school of hard knocks, plus Artie, that got Marc where he is today. The first store in Southampton came about from a call from the landlord. He had a bagel store that needed some 'attention', Marc decided to take a shot at it. And the love affair with Long Island began.
Moving his family to East Hampton, Marc is now the owner of many stores on the North and South forks. He prides himself on the work ethic his dad taught him.
Still in the family, the Westwood, NJ store still exists from the bagels USA days. A testament to the quality and pride the Goldbergs take in their product and service that they provide to their community.
